
Brass Band Festival and Ice Cream Social Part of Adams County Bicentennial |
May 24, 1999 - The Bicentennial Committee first event to celebrate the 200th Birthday of the county will be an old fashioned Ice Cream and Strawberries Social combined with an outdoor band concert featuring the Adams County Bicentennial Band. As part of the Brass Band Festival activities, the Strawberry Social will be held June 20, 1999 at 6:00pm at the Gettysburg Recreation Park Amphitheater. Following the Ice Cream Social, at 7:00pm, the Bicentennial Band will give its first public concert. Made up of 50 Adams Countians musicians and under the director of Bob Zellner, retired director of bands and head of the music department at Gettysburg College, the band will present a repertoire of modern, historic and patriotic songs. Adams County Bicentennial collectible gifts will be for sale at the concert. In case of inclement weather, the Social and Concert will take place in the Reigle Auditorium of the Gettysburg Middle School.
The Bicentennial Band is planning
other concerts throughout the official year of celebration, July 1999 to July 2000.
Confirmed dates are Sept 26th at the New Oxford High School Auditorium, Oct 10th at the
Littlestown High School Auditorium and the actual birthdate of the county, Jan 22nd, 2000,
in the Reigle Auditorium of the Gettysburg Middle School. Other concerts are being planned
in other areas of the county. |
