October 22, 1998 - Adams County was officially established January 22, 1800 and the
community is gearing up to celebrate its 200th anniversary. An Adams County Bicentennial
Committee has been established by the County Commissioners to develop and coordinate
commemorative activities. The committee is organizing a yearlong celebration, from
July 4th, 1999 to July 4th, 2000.
The Bicentennial Committee has six
subcommittees actively working to produce an outline of special events that will not only
honor the local forefathers and tell their stories but also be entertaining, fun
activities that will bring together people from all areas of the county. They include
parades, a speakers group, a time capsule, concerts, a living history faire, tours, school
student programs and a website.
The Bicentennial Committee is
seeking the cooperation of Adams County citizens to help in commemorating this significant
milestone of the countys history. Any person, business or organization can help in
two ways - tie upcoming special events into the 200th anniversary celebration and become
an official sponsor of the Bicentennial.
The Bicentennial website is located
