Gettysburg, PA (August 15, 2006) -- Main Street Gettysburg and the Association of Licensed Town Guides of Gettysburg announce the 2007-2008 testing cycle for individuals interested in becoming Licensed Town Guides.

Town Guides, licensed and administered by Main Street Gettysburg, provide quality interpretation and education for visitors and residents giving them a better understanding of the role of the Borough in the Battle of Gettysburg, its aftermath, and commemoration. Visitors and residents also gain a better understanding and feel for life in a town caught between battle lines. Located in the Historic Gettysburg Hotel and open daily from 10 AM to 4 PM, the guides offer 90-minute walking tours of downtown Gettysburg.

The written examination will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2007. Registration for the written examination will open on September 1,

2006 and will close on January 15, 2007. Test registration requires a $35.00 non-refundable application fee. Study resource packets can be purchased without registering for this year's exam at a cost of $10.00 and can be obtained from Main Street Gettysburg's Administrative office at 59 E. High St., Gettysburg, PA.

Individuals achieving the required level of scoring on the written examination will be invited to a training seminar (no charge) in early spring 2007. Oral examinations for successful candidates will be conducted as required by guide staffing levels between April 2007 and November 2008. Selection for oral examinations will be based upon scores achieved on the written examination.
