Gettysburg 2008 Living History Calendar of Events

 

Gettysburg has dedicated live reenactors portraying the role of Civil War soldiers and civilians throughout the year.  See and talk to the boys in Blue and Gray in their camps and on the battlefield. Many of these events are FREE. Dates and locations are subject to change.

minie2.gif (315 bytes)April 14 - The New Gettysburg Visitor Center And Museum Opening This new 139,000 square foot facility will contain a new park visitor center, a 24,000 square foot museum of Gettysburg in the Civil War, the restored Gettysburg Cyclorama painting, curatorial space, office space, limited food service and a book and museum store. The project is funded by the Non-Profit Gettysburg Foundation, in cooperation with the Gettysburg National Military Park.

minie2.gif (315 bytes)July 4 - 6 - Gettysburg 145th National Civil War Battle Reenactment Each day will include two exciting battles, field demonstrations, live mortar fire demonstrations, two activities tents with continuous living history programs, and a living history village with all-day activities. Visitors are invited to shop in the very impressive "Sutler Row" where they will discover period-style clothing and wares or walk through the military camps to experience 1860's military life and talk to these living historians. Redding Farm Table Rock Road (aprox 3 1/2 mi North from the center of Gettysburg ) The Gettysburg 145th National Civil War Battle Reenactment is an all day family event. minie2.gif (315 bytes)November 18 - Grand Opening Of The David Wills House This world-class museum about Abraham Lincoln and the Gettysburg Address is a new venue of Gettysburg National Military Park. President Abraham Lincoln spent the night at the David Wills House before delivering the Gettysburg Address on November 19, 1863. This facility will contain museum exhibits related to the aftermath of the battle in the town of Gettysburg and Lincoln's stay. Operated by the Non-Profit main Street Gettysburg, in partnership with the Gettysburg National Military Park.
