| The veterans were taken on a sightseeing tour of the Gettysburg Battlefields, now a splendid National Park. Actual spots where skirmishes and desperate attacks took place were revisited. | They saw the pretty fields and remembered where once men lay in agony. They heard the birds sing and were reminded of the sounds of the guns. They surveyed the ground where, 75 years before, they had raged war. | |

| A parade through the streets of Gettysburg honored the veterans and highlighted soldiers and weaponry of the day. This was only 3 years before America participated in World War II. | Thousands of spectators entered the camps to see and meet with the thinning lines of the blue and the gray. The old soldiers enjoyed all the attention and pampering. Pictured above is nine year old Annie Laurie from Atlanta, GA standing next to Wm. D. Welch of the 140th PA Volunteers from Pittsburgh, PA. | |

Despite the many activities and ceremonies, there was plenty of time for old comrades to share enduring memories, mixed with laughter and tears. |
