The first battle of the 2001 Reenactments began with loud cannon fire and much smoke.  With temperatures in the mid-80's and a slight breeze the weather could
not have been better for the first day!

Confederates advance from the
left as the Opening Skirmish at
Herr's Ridge begins.

.As Confederate troops marched into the town of Gettysburg on July 1, 1863 they didn't expect to find anything more than a small local militia group.

.Little did the Confederates know that a vast number of Union troops were
waiting for them and thus did open a surprise fire on them.
