By 1890 the Methodist Church had moved to a new location and the building was sold to the Adams County Civil War Veterans group called the G.A.R. (Grand Army of the Republic) . Dr. Risley is an associate professor and head of the Department of Journalism at Pennsylvania State University. A past president of the American Journalism Historians Association (AJHA), he is the author of Abolition and the Press: The Moral Struggle Against Slavery, winner of the AJHA’s award for best book on media history published in 2008, and editor of The Civil War: Primary Documents from 1860 to 1865.
Following the presentation, Dr. Risley will be available for a book signing.
