A Walk Through History A Series of Evening Walks |
The Association of Licensed Battlefield Guides announces a series of evening ‘Walks Through History’ on the Gettysburg battlefield to be offered throughout the summer. Held on Tuesday evenings from June 5 – September 4, each tour will focus on a specific topic such as a particular unit, part of the battle, or personality; a few of the tours require significant cross-country walking, while others are less physically challenging. |

His first book The Bronze and the Granite, was published by Daisy Publishing
in 1983. To date, Broadwater has had more than twenty books published,
primarily in the fields of Civil War and Revolutionary War history. Battle of
Despair: Bentonville and the North Carolina Campaign (2004) was nominated for
both the Lincoln Prize and the Douglas Southall Freeman Awards. American
Generals of the Revolutionary War: A Biographical Dictionary (2007) was
nominated for the George Washington Book Award. In addition to the books, Broadwater has written more than 100 magazine articles. He wrote a regular, monthly column for Military Trader Magazine for eight years, and has been a contributor to North South Trader's bi-annual Civil War Collector's Price Guide. A charter member and past president of Descendants of Civil War Veterans, Broadwater has also been a member of the Civil War Round Table of Baltimore, The Harry Gilmore Camp of Sons of Confederate Veterans, and the Kennesaw Mountain Association. He actively speaks to historical societies and civic organizations on Civl War and Revolutionary War topics. On October 1, 2009, Broadwater was inducted into the Blair County Arts Hall of Fame for his contributions to the field of Literary Arts. |

gardens. As you meander along the stops of the tour, you will visit not only Gettysburg’s oldest residential home, but several other properties that date from the early 1700s to the late 1800s. From serene patches among the hubbub of town, to the laid back country gardens of the rural county; from the rambling beauty of flowers and native plants, to the formal splendor of herbs and vegetables, all will be showcased for your enjoyment. Historic Church Tours Visit and Hear of Events that Happened at Gettysburg's Historic Churches |
Enjoy a walk along old town streets of Gettysburg as you visit our historic churches. Eight churches participate (four each week) and allow you to go inside and hear heroic stories about what happened in that church during and after the battle. You will be able to admire the many beautiful features of our historic churches while short programs are presented about the sacrifices made by the citizens. You'll also hear about the conditions found around Gettysburg in the aftermath of the fighting. These 90 minute tours begin in front of the
Presbyterian church, 208 Baltimore St. (two blocks from the square). The first
at 6:00pm and a second at 6:30pm. No reservations are required but arrive at
least ten minutes prior to departure time to purchase tickets - Adults are $5;
Children 12 and under are free. Park free behind the church. The churches toured on the following Wednesdays (6/13, 6/27, 7/11, 7/25, 8/08 & 8/22) are: Prince of Peace Episcopal, St. Francis Roman Catholic, St. Paul's AME and Christ Lutheran. event in the eastern U.S., the three-day Festival offers sensory delights and
a wide variety of experiences for participants including tours of the farm's
lavender fields and demonstration gardens, lectures and workshops by
nationally known experts, and cut-your-own lavender from the farm's 2.5 acres
of plantings. Visit with vendors, find practically everything lavender under
our "Lavender Tent", or start your own lavender garden with some of the nearly
100 varieties available at our certified organic greenhouses. Three varieties
- 'Madeline Marie', 'Rebecca Kay', and 'Two Amys' - were developed at Willow
Pond Farm.

Historic Church Tours Visit and Hear of Events that Happened at Gettysburg's Historic Churches |
Enjoy a walk along old town streets of Gettysburg as you visit our historic churches. Eight churches participate (four each week) and allow you to go inside and hear heroic stories about what happened in that church during and after the battle. You will be able to admire the many beautiful features of our historic churches while short programs are presented about the sacrifices made by the citizens. You'll also hear about the conditions found around Gettysburg in the aftermath of the fighting. These 90 minute tours begin in front of the
Presbyterian church, 208 Baltimore St. (two blocks from the square). The first

Historic Church Tours Visit and Hear of Events that Happened at Gettysburg's Historic Churches |
Enjoy a walk along old town streets of Gettysburg as you visit our historic churches. Eight churches participate (four each week) and allow you to go inside and hear heroic stories about what happened in that church during and after the battle. You will be able to admire the many beautiful features of our historic churches while short programs are presented about the sacrifices made by the citizens. You'll also hear about the conditions found around Gettysburg in the aftermath of the fighting. Hands-on Interactive Program | The American Civil War Museum Complex, in conjunction with American Stories: Historic Walking Tours & Programs, will once again offer the popular interactive summer program, Enlist Now! Visitors will experience first-hand what life was like as a "new recruit" in the Union army. |

Recruits will be enlisted into the Union army and
will learn the basics of being a soldier. Covered in the 1-hour program will
be an overview of the uniform and supplies needed to be a soldier, marching
drills, and daily events that were part of a soldier's life. The program is
suitable for all ages. It is designed as an introduction for visitors that
have limited knowledge on the war. The program will take place four Saturday evenings during the summer. The dates of the program are June 30, July 7, 21 and 28, 2012. The program will begin promptly at 7 p.m. The cost to participate is $15.00 per person. All recruits will receive a kepi that they can take home with them. Group size for the program is a maximum of 35 people. Additional programs can be added to accommodate larger groups. Programs are offered at the Museum and Visitor Center, in the Solders'
National Cemetery and at sites on the battlefield. Programs vary in length
from twenty minutes to two hours depending on the subject matter and location
and best of all, ranger guided programs are free of charge! The summer 2012 schedule of ranger guided programs begins June 9 and runs through August 11.
