Living History

Confederates Take The Shriver House

The Only In Town Reenactment

This living history presentation provides visitors an opportunity to speak with Confederate soldiers as they prepare for battle.  Watch the sharpshooters as they occupy the attic, fire muskets at their enemy on Cemetery Hill and, in some cases, take their last breath before meeting their maker.

The Shriver House Museum

309 Baltimore Street
Gettysburg, PA 17325

717-337-2800

Visitors can also see where Civil War medical supplies and live cartridges were discovered during the restoration of the Shrivers’ home 133 years after the fighting ended.  After visiting the make-shift hospital set up in the summer kitchen at the conclusion of the tour, visitors can share a root beer with the soldiers in Shriver’s Saloon and meet some of Gettysburg’s “local” citizens who also have harrowing stories to share.

The Battle of Gettysburg encompassed not only the surrounding countryside but the streets of this historic town as well.  This is the only reenactment to take place in the streets of Gettysburg.

Sun 7 Varies per performance & day Theater Dames At Sea

Dames At Sea is a real winner, a little gem of a musical." - New York Times

This flashy musical is a hysterical spoof of 1930s Busby Berkley style movie-musical spectaculars. Totem Pole Playhouse

9555 Golf Course Road
Fayetteville, PA

717-352-2164 The show tells the story of Ruby, just off the bus from Utah, who in the span of one day falls in love, gets cast as a dancer in a Broadway musical, saves the show by moving it to a Navy ship, takes over for the star, becomes a hit sensation, and gets married, to boot! The role of Ruby in the original production launched the career of Bernadette Peters. Plenty of singing and tap dancing keep this vessel bounding over waves of laughter.

"broadsies the 1930s movie musicals of Busy Berkley with tongue firmly in cheek." - LA Times
